How to get that perfect photograph of your child

Many people enjoy looking through photographs either digitally or physically revisiting favourite places and reliving memories of times gone by. They especially love looking at photographs of children in the family or of friends and it is so important to have a record of the milestones that children reach through their lives such as first smile, first steps and first days at nursery, school or university. Getting that perfect picture however can be tricky especially with very young children but there are some tips for getting that ideal shot.

We all encourage children to say cheese when taking a photo but often this results in a cheesy grin so it is much better to say something that will make them smile naturally. Something funny, or slightly rude usually works well and will result in a much more natural smile.

Young children can be distracted with toys or by someone blowing bubbles around and taking multiple photographs should mean you get at least one good photo. It does not matter if they are not looking directly at the camera as the best shots are often when they are looking at something else. In the same way a good photograph can be achieved if the child is sitting or even lying down as they will be more relaxed and will not feel that they are on show which can put some children off who are not very confident.
